“Peek-a Boo Otters”

Rick’s love of wildlife photography goes back to when he first moved to the Lac du Bonnet area. During their first winter here, Rick and his wife saw a pink and grey bird land in the snow on the roof of their cottage. Both thought, “Wow, that must be someone’s pet that has escaped!” and thought maybe they should try to catch it. Before they could come up with a plan a dozen more of these birds also landed on the roof. Using an old bird book they identified the bird as a beautiful Pine Grosbeak. Within days, Evening Grosbeaks also showed up and they decided to buy some bird feeders to keep the gorgeous creatures coming around.
Rick purchased an inexpensive Canon camera, and his journey into bird and wildlife photograph began. Since that time Rick has moved up to a Nikon camera with a zoom lens. 
Rick gets a tremendous amount of enjoyment in capturing a photo of a bird or animal in its natural habitat and hopes his natural photos will encourage others to appreciate and help preserve our magnificent wildlife.

“Rusty Nail Sandpipers”

Ted Muir is passionate about carving birds. Sealed with natural finishes- to highlight the beauty of wood grain and structure- his one-of-a-kind carvings offer up a much-welcomed connection with nature.  That connection by no accident arose from a life-long admiration of nature and an accomplished career in natural history in Manitoba. Over the past 20 years upwards of 700 of his carvings have figured into the fund-raising efforts of major conservation organizations in Manitoba and select provinces and states.  He splits his carving activities between Winnipeg and Canada’s west coast, coaxing in bursts of joy waterfowl hunting or teaching others to carve or photograph wildlife.
Ted’s signature carvings have become rusty nail shorebirds- characterized by antique square nails which are bent into the shape of bird beaks and mounted on a base coaxed from a century old farm fence post.

“Snowy Owl IV” by John Paul Lavand Limited Edition Print 458/500”

John Paul passed away unexpectedly in the early morning hours of May 6, 2025, in Thunder Bay, Ontario. This is your opportunity to obtain a limited-edition print of John Paul’s “Snowy Owl IV” along with Certificate of Authenticity.
John Paul Lavand’s heritage is Ojibway. Born in 1962, he was raised on Rat Portage Reserve near Kenora, Ontario. He was inspired to begin drawing at the age of six by the death of his brother. In the beginning, his main theme was portraits of people. Later, as his work evolved, he began to concentrate more on drawing wildlife.
John’s working medium is pen and ink with a hand brush touch of colour. In addition to maturing in his style of detailed Wildlife Art, he created a limited number of traditional native works in acrylics. In 1980, John presented his first one-man exhibit at the Wah-Sa Gallery. Through such exhibitions, John obtained the recognition of being an exciting new Canadian Native Artist.

Rick has an artistic respect for nature and the landscape we live in. He has been interested in art since a very young age. His mother was an artist who inspired him to pursue art.
Rick worked as a Conservation Officer (Game Warden) for over thirty years living and working in all areas of Manitoba. This provided Rick with an understanding of wilderness, wildlife, and nature. Through his art he hopes to demonstrate to others the unique beauty of nature he has been fortunate to experience. His greatest notion is that after a career outdoors he now sees nature so much clearer as a result of studying art.
Rick has sold his art through shows and many commissions for art enthusiasts throughout North America. Rick’s attention to detail with his respect and love of the natural world is displayed in each of his paintings.
